About Charmaine J. Simmons, MA, LPC, CMIP

You deserve a therapist who is both thoughtful and grounded.

I bring nearly two decades of clinical experience helping adults navigate the intersection of emotional wellbeing, identity, and authentic living.

Clients often describe my approach as:

• insightful

• practical

• direct yet compassionate

• professional yet down-to-earth

My role is not to tell you who to become, but to give you tools and guide you to reconnect with who you already are beneath the pressure of expectations, roles, and survival strategies.

About You

The people who tend to benefit most from my work are:

• high-functioning professionals

• deep thinkers and reflective individuals

• people who carry a lot of responsibility

• individuals who value both psychology and spirituality

• people ready for deeper change rather than surface-level advice

Clients often tell me they appreciate having a space where they feel: heard, understood, and challenged in meaningful ways.

My Approach

Understanding yourself is important, but insight alone rarely creates lasting change. I offer therapy that goes beyond insight.

My work focuses on guiding clients to understand the deeper roles and survival patterns that shaped them, while also creating space for new ways of living and relating to themselves.

Together we explore the connection between:

• childhood roles and adult survival patterns

• emotional burdens carried for others

• nervous system regulation and stress

• authenticity, identity, and inner authority

This process often integrates practical tools with deeper reflection, helping clients move from constant pressure toward greater clarity, freedom, and self-trust.

Reclaiming Yourself by Reclaiming Your Internal Authority

Many of the people I work with have spent years responding to external expectations.

At some point, they begin asking a deeper question:

What would it mean to live from my own internal authority?

In our work together, we focus on helping you:

Recognize Survival Patterns

Understand the roles and strategies that once helped you adapt but now no longer serve you.

Release Emotional Burdens

Let go of expectations and responsibilities that were never truly yours to carry.

Regulate the Body and Mind

Support your nervous system through rest, movement, rhythm, and grounded practices.

Reconnect to Your Inner Authority

Develop deeper trust in your own voice, wisdom, and direction.

Live with Greater Authenticity

Make decisions based on alignment rather than survival.

Holistic and Integrative

Human beings are complex.

How we feel emotionally is often connected to how we are living physically, mentally, and spiritually.

When appropriate, our work may also explore supportive practices related to:

• rest and sleep

• movement and nervous system regulation

• nutrition and overall wellbeing

• hormonal rhythms and cycle awareness (for women)

• spiritual reflection and connection to something greater

It is about learning how to support your whole self, releasing perfectionism and rigid structures that leave you feeling confined.

Let's work together

Therapy is a place where you can clear the chatter and focus on yourself.  As cliche as it may sound, you cannot pour from an empty cup. This is your space that is curated just for you

If you are ready to explore what life might feel like with less pressure and more authenticity, I would be honored to support you in that process.

My Professional Journey

With over 18 years of experience as a therapist and coach, I’ve supported individuals in outpatient, residential, and private practice settings through individual, family, and group therapy, as well as psychological testing. Over time, I developed a passion for working with high-functioning adults who appear to “have it all together” but quietly struggle with people-pleasing, perfectionism, and feelings of low self-worth.

Often, these patterns are rooted in unresolved childhood trauma or expressed through high-functioning depression, anxiety, or PTSD. My role is to help you unravel those patterns so you can live in alignment with what you truly want, not just what others expect of you.

How I Work

I use a collaborative, integrative approach that blends:

  • Mindfulness (to reconnect you with the present moment)
  • Psychodynamic therapy (to explore root causes and subconscious patterns)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) (to shift unhelpful thought cycles)
  • Somatic practices (to release what the body has been holding)

As Carl Jung wisely said: “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life, and you will call it fate.”

Together, we’ll bring those hidden patterns into the light so you can choose a different path, which is one rooted in rest, wholeness, and freedom.

Why I Do This Work

The work I do is more than just a job, it’s a calling. I guide people to develop greater self-care, self-awareness and self-love. Healing starts within and when we live in our full truths, then and only then can we extend that love to others.

Beyond the Therapy Room

Outside of work, I love curling up with a good Netflix series, traveling, enjoying good food and, most importantly, spending quality time with my loved ones. Some of my favorite self-care practices are meditating, journaling, yoga, or sweating it out in strength conditioning class.
